Tom’s first language was Performance, learning dance from his mother, a professional ballerina. His love of art broadened with formal training in classical piano from age five. Continuing until graduating high school, Mr. Friedman participated in and received awards for character and lead roles for school and professional plays and musicals, and learned five more musical instruments which supported him in leading a professional jazz quintet, which played venues such as Balboa Park, Del Mar Fair, and private parties.
He composed for and produced over sixty recorded songs which many made their way onto full-length professionally produced music CDs. He toured in a professional musical around Southern California and was honored to perform at Balboa Park’s Circle in the Round Theater.
Upon graduating high school, Tom made a six-week trek to western Europe to broaden his horizons. When he returned he made a transition to tutelage under his father, a serial entrepreneur. Though he attempted numerous business ventures, it was under the guidance of his father that Tom successfully started and managed a thriving mobile auto detail company until he sold it four years later. He also attended Cal State University Fullerton and studied Musical Theater, which exposed him to Strasberg, Hagen, Meisner.
It was in college that Tom found directing and producing to satisfy his passion for bringing art to business. He interned for Jory Rosen, a leading regional marketing producer. He then interned under Stephen Crisman, a veteran of National Geographic documentaries.
Tom has since worked with respected industry influencers such as Emmy Award winner Jeff Probst, Academy Award Nominee director Paola di Florio and Sundance Documentary Film winner Lisa Leeman, as well as many others.
He has written, directed, and produced several short films, commercials, corporate videos, and is now completing his first independent feature film Neshima.
Tom’s compulsion to express himself is common to every person, but through video production and film he uses his most fluent languages, intending to inspire and uplift as many people as possible while making commercially viable entertainment.
